Social Action
One of the remarkable aspects of our small church is the vast amount of service and resources that members of this community give to the wider community. In addition to the projects listed below, people of this congregation dedicate their working lives to making the world a better place. Some Social Action Projects done by members of this church include:
SHARE-A-GIFT: CUCC collects new and gently used unwrapped toys to distribute to needy families during the holiday season. The beauty of this program is that everyone benefits – the dignity of the recipient families is respected, family holiday financial tension is reduced, and loved toys find new homes! See: http://shareagift.org. Another holiday program we participate in is Family to Family. We generally support two families and two individuals by purchasing the items on their wish list. COMMUNITY FOOD SHARE: Our ongoing collection of non-perishable food goes partly to Community Food
Share, a Boulder and Broomfield organization that distributes food to those in need. The Sister Carmen Center in Lafayette, EFAA, the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless and the Denver Inner City Parish share in this collection.
Community Table: On the 4th Thursday of the month, CUCC members help prepare and serve a meal to the homeless and hungry in our community through the Community Table program.
HEIFER PROJECT: Our congregation has held a Living Gift Market to raise money to buy various animals through the Heifer Project. By donating livestock to needy people around the world, the Heifer Project helps hungry families feed themselves. At the heart of Heifer’s philosophy is the commitment families make to “pass on the gift,” by sharing one or more of their animal’s offspring with other families in need. Helping others ensures dignity and multiplies the benefits of the original gift from generation to generation.
CROP WALK: CUCC participates in the nationwide CROP Walk each October, raising thousands of dollars to alleviate hunger locally and around the world. “We Walk Because They Walk.”
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: CUCC is a partner in the Apostles Build project at the new Northfield community in north Boulder. Our financial and volunteer support will provide a portion of a home for a qualifying family. CUCC has been a covenant church with Habitat for Humanity of Boulder Valley since 1995.
BOULDER COUNTY AIDS PROJECT: A charter member of this organization, CUCC provides financial and volunteer support in its food bank for persons living with AIDS.
